If it is said that the eyes are the mirror of the soul, we can say about the eyelids that the years of the face are reflected on them! The skin around the eyes is especially thin and sensitive and ages the fastest compared to the surrounding areas. Excess skin around the eyes, fine lines, bags on the eyelids and prominent dark circles make the face look older and more tired. We all know that a young face is toned, shiny and full of energy, and that it radiates satisfaction. And that’s exactly what each of us wants to see when we look in the mirror!
Until recently, the tightening of minor excess eyelid skin required expensive and sometimes risky surgical procedures. But that is no longer the case!
One of the treatments in our office for rejuvenating the area around the eyes is the tightening of the skin of the eyelids with the Candela fractional CO2 laser. For this reason, we decided to share with you the recovery and experience of our patient Daniela after laser treatment. In the rest of the text, you will learn everything about the treatment, results and recovery period.

Eyelids

Daniela is a young woman in her early forties. It is the age when dark circles, wrinkles around the eyes, excess skin on the eyelids or swollen eyelids become a part of our everyday life. As she regularly cares for her skin with combined treatments of hyaluronic fillers, botox and biorevitalization, Danijela had no major problems in the surrounding area except for the desire to tighten a small amount of excess skin. In short, our patient wanted an antiaging treatment that would regenerate her skin and slow down aging.

Why is the co2 laser good choice for eyelid correction?

CO2 lasers have been present for about 30 years in surgical and dermatological practice and act on all layers of the skin, from the superficial to the deepest. They have become an indispensable procedure when it is necessary to restore, rejuvenate the skin and remove imperfections. The advanced technology of various laser modes has made it possible to tighten the skin, remove scars, stretch marks, hyperpigmentation, spots, small wrinkles around the lips or eyes. No less important, the heat rays of the laser in the deep layer of the skin stimulate the creation of new collagen and elastin, the effect of which is “thicker”, taut skin with a firm tone.
When it comes to the skin of the eyelids, it is important to know that it is very sensitive, thin and requires a less invasive way of working compared to the rest of the facial skin. The laser acts on its surface layer as well as deeper layers in relation to the problems we want to solve. By creating collagen and elastin, the skin becomes “fuller”, while the existing collagen contracts, which tightens the skin.

What does laser treatment look like?

One of the advantages of fractional CO2 laser treatment is that it provides optimal results with a short recovery period. As we mentioned, the skin of the upper and lower eyelids is very thin and it is recommended to do 3 – 4 treatments using less invasive methods.
Before the treatment, the face is thoroughly cleaned and an anesthetic cream is applied, which remains on the face for the next 60 minutes. This is a necessary part of the procedure so that the treatment is comfortable for the patient and the feeling of “burning” heat from the laser rays is reduced to a minimum. The laser eyelid tightening treatment does not last longer than 20 minutes.

AFTER THE TREATMENT

Immediately after the procedure, you will feel the warmth and tightening of the treated area. Redness and mild swelling are also common. After the treatment, the doctor will recommend therapy and proper skin care to help you recover as quickly and better as possible. Adhering to rules such as avoiding sun exposure and applying reparative creams is essential in order to protect new, young skin and enjoy it for as long as possible.
It is very important to note that recovery also depends on the patient’s behavior in order to avoid complications, for example. in the form of an infection. Therefore, after the treatment and during recovery, you should use clean towels, clean pillowcases, remove hair from your face and adhere to cleaning and facial care exclusively with products recommended by your doctor, i.e. you don’t need to do anything “on your own”.

recovery

Depending on the intensity of the laser treatment, recovery in most cases takes about 5 to 7 days.
On the first day, redness and swollen eyelids are present, followed by a feeling of tightness. On the second day, the swelling slowly recedes, and the red dots take on a brownish color, which is most pronounced on the third day.

The brownish layers of the skin begin to peel off, and this process ends on the 5th. of the day. After that, the skin is slightly red, which can be easily covered with concealer or suitable makeup.

 results

Fractional CO2 laser in the peri-ocular area can:

  • Slightly tightens the skin of the eyelids
  • Remove minor excess skin
  • Reduces wrinkles around the smiley eyes
  • Lightens dark circles (breaks up pigment)
  • Stimulates collagen synthesis

The effects achieved with the Candela CO2 laser are the tightening of minor excess skin on the eyelids, the reduction of signs of aging in the eye area, and the complete renewal of the skin. Subtle results are seen after the first treatment, while most of our patients see greater improvements after the second treatment. In the next few months, the quality of the skin improves due to the creation of new collagen and elastin, responsible for the youthful appearance of the skin.
