Rosacea is a persistent and chronic skin disease. Redness most often appears on the cheeks, chin, forehead, even around the eyes, and requires serious and adequate treatments. Medical laser therapy has proven to be the most effective solution, and in this way we treat rosacea completely safely and painlessly.
What is rosacea?
Rosacea is a chronic skin disease that most often appears in women between the ages of 20 and 50. It can also occur in men, but such cases are much rarer. It mainly affects people with a lighter complexion, and interestingly, people with A+ blood type are most prone to it.
Rosacea is characterized by intense redness on the face, especially on the nose, cheeks, forehead, around the lips, as well as a constant feeling of burning, heat and tingling on the face.
The increased amount of blood in the surface layer of the facial skin leads to the appearance of pronounced redness and uneven reddish marks on the skin. Capillaries expand and if we do not keep it under control, rosacea can spread to the neck, décolletage and chest.
Rosacea – what causes it?
The exact cause that leads to the appearance of rosacea cannot be determined, but there are many factors that contribute to its development:
- genetic predispositions;
- hormonal changes – during menopause, pregnancy, but also during the menstrual cycle, rosacea develops and progresses;
- exposure to harmful UVA and UVB sun rays, external factors such as cold, humidity or dry air;
- it often appears in people who have certain stomach problems, suffer from constipation (constipation), have digestion problems, hard-to-digest food, alcohol, coffee, excessive intake of carbohydrates and spicy food, in some people they are a trigger for the appearance of rosacea;
- aggressive cosmetics, heavy make-up that closes pores, care products with harmful artificial ingredients also lead to the appearance of redness on the skin;
- taking certain categories of drugs;
- stress.
What types of rosacea are there?
The clinical stages of rosacea differ according to whether the disease is quiescent or progressive. Without adequate diagnosis and timely treatment, the clinical picture of this skin disease will worsen day by day. We distinguish four forms of rosacea:
1. Rosacea eritemotelaneangiectatica – redness appears in the central part of the face, mainly on the cheeks. The skin is sensitive, swollen and there is a feeling of burning and stinging on the face;
2. Rosacea papulopustulosa – this type of rosacea is accompanied by symptoms that resemble red pimples. The skin is very painful and sensitive;
3. Rosacea ocularis – affects the area around the eyes and is accompanied by redness, sensitivity of the eyes to light, dryness of the eye and blurred vision;
4. Rosacea phymatosa – rarely appears, and in patients who have it, it is accompanied by thickening of the skin on the face. It most often affects the nose, but also the cheeks, forehead and other parts of the facial skin.
the most effective treatments
The basis of rosacea treatment is to eliminate inflammation and bring the capillaries under control. One of the most effective solutions for treating rosacea is laser therapy. With the dermatologist’s recommendation, the number of treatments and the course of treatment are determined.
Laser treatment for rosacea
The medical lasers that we use in the treatment of rosacea are part of the multifunctional device Alma Harmony XL PRO. This device allows us to treat as many as 65 different aesthetic and dermatological indications using different technologies and laser beams, applicators and probes. All treatments are safe, painless, non-aggressive. Full control of the laser is possible, depending on the indication and the type of skin being treated.
Harmony DYE VL
The indications we treat with the phototherapy probe Harmony DYE VL Pro are vascular and pigment lesions, hyperpigmentation and photodamage. We successfully treat rosacea, as well as couperose, red inflamed acne, lentigo, dyschromia, and at the same time restore a rejuvenated and healthy appearance to the skin.
The treatment is based on advanced light technology, and it is a perfected form of IPL, intense pulsed light. Namely, by emitting light of a certain wavelength, the pigment hemoglobin is absorbed in the blood vessels. This leads to the closing of the blood vessels and thus the redness and capillaries disappear completely.
The treatment is painless, there are no side effects, and the first effects are visible after a few days. The subjective burning sensation on the skin is reduced, the complexion is more even, and redness and capillaries are less visible. Facial treatments last about 10 minutes, and in the case of rosacea, it is recommended to do a series of 3 to 6 treatments. The protocol is to repeat treatments every 3 to 4 weeks. We do this type of treatment from autumn to early spring. Treatment includes constant care of the skin, applying protective creams to the face, as well as following all the doctor’s advice in order to make the treatment of rosacea as successful as possible.
hARMONY nd:yag laser
This non-ablative laser emits intense light that very effectively treats vascular lesions. The so-called Cooled Long Pulse 1064nm Nd:YAG module is used. The laser performs coagulation of vascular lesions and soft tissues very efficiently.
The indications we treat are: rosacea, hemangiomas, warts, reticular veins up to 4 mm in diameter, poikiloderma, telangiectasias. We pass the laser over the skin, and all the patient can feel is a slight stinging. After the treatment, the appearance of redness is possible, which goes away in two days. There is no long and painful recovery period. After just one treatment with this laser, the capillaries and redness on the face are significantly reduced.
What is perhaps the most important thing for the patients, the complaints such as the feeling of burning and heat on the face are reduced. The treatment of rosacea requires persistence, so it is necessary to repeat the treatments, usually 5 to 6 treatments with the ND:Yag laser are necessary. The detailed protocol and the number of necessary treatments will be determined by your doctor.
