It is often thought that sweating “cleanses” the body, but this is not true since sweat consists of water and minerals, primarily sodium.

In some situations, the sweat glands produce more sweat than is needed to cool the body, which is called hyperhidrosis. The exact cause of sweat gland dysfunction is unknown. In most situations, excessive sweating is not related to a health disorder, however, before deciding on treatment, patients are advised to do general laboratory analyzes (blood count, sedimentation and thyroid hormones – tsh and ft4).

Increased sweating, although it has no effect on health, can cause great emotional discomfort and a sense of shame. Sweat can also have an unpleasant smell, which can additionally disrupt social activities. Sweaty palms can not only make greetings uncomfortable, but can also interfere with computer use, writing, and other activities that involve the use of the hands.
Excessive sweating usually appears in one or two areas of the body, while sweating in other areas is normal. Most often, sweating is increased in the armpit area, on the forehead or on the hands.
